About Elizabeth Hurst

My first quilting class was in 1981. It was a year long sampler. Each block (both machine and appliqué) had to be drafted on graph paper. We then had to draft other blocks that would create a design between the sampler blocks. Whew! This quilt took me FOREVER TO FINISH, 2 years. This was in part due to one of my few attempts to do hand quilting. This class gave me a strong foundation for quilting and was also a great learning experience!

I still make quilts on a regular basis, some by hand but most by machine. I hope to make one for all my family members.

I started to take watercolor painting classes about 6 years ago. I started learning the watercolor basics but then after a few years I wanted to add some quilts to the paintings. My first painting that incorporated quilts is” Country Quilts”. Everyone else in my class had an old car in the middle of the road. I, being a quilter, needed to add quilts. That was the start! I have completed 9 paintings and hope to keep going.

My paintings and quilts have been displayed in Grants Pass, Oregon at the monthly First Friday Art Night. I have also been the featured artist demonstrating my painting at Llamas and Llambs Boutique for their Art Walk in Jacksonville, Oregon and also for the First Friday Art Night in Grants Pass at Savannah Faire.

I also enjoy participating in several quilt shows each year here in Southern Oregon. For all my products I do the work myself: I mat the prints, fold the cards, cut the bookmarks and do the packaging. I have been asked by several people at quilt shows if I get my printing done in the United States and yes I do.

I love to quilt and I love to paint. This is a new venture for me and I thank you so very much for looking!
